Have you recently moved into a new house or apartment that doesn’t exactly afford you all the room you need to fit your large furniture and accents? While it might take a little while to get used to the reduced space, you can maximize the area you do have with a few strategic interior design tips. This will keep you from having to shimmy past end tables just to get from one room to another. Here are some space-saving tricks to keep in mind as you arrange your new home.
Circular logic
Have a bunch of square furniture that you’re having difficulty finding room for? Get rid of them. In cramped interiors, those sharp corners will constantly be poking into you and they take up more space than you might think. Instead, opt for round dining tables and accent tables that will be much easier to navigate around and won’t rob your interior of those precious extra inches.
Storage space
Since there isn’t a ton of room to leave all of your possessions out in the open, you might want to think about picking up a few storage pieces to save on space. Wooden chests and dressers are perfect for keeping odds and ends organized and out of sight, plus they can double of as surfaces for decorative accents in your home.
Overhead lighting
Warm illumination is an important part of keeping a small space from feeling too dark or cramped, but you won’t want to sacrifice and any floor space with freestanding lamps. Instead, go for overhead fixtures like ceiling lights that offer plenty of light throughout your home without making your furniture layout difficult to navigate.
