Lloyd Flanders Materials
Lloyd Flanders has produced some of the finest outdoor wicker furniture for over a century. Their luxury woven collections are renown not just for exquisite design but for the high quality of their materials too. From proprietary weaving processes to premium upholstery, aluminum frames and FSC-certified wooden tabletops, Lloyd Flanders uses only the finest materials in the construction of their outdoor lounge and dining sets.
Wicker
They are recognized worldwide as one of the top manufacturers of premium woven furniture for indoor and outdoor settings. Lloyd Flanders commercial-grade all-weather wicker products grace the floors of luxury resorts, restaurants and upscale residences. The durability of their collections is strengthened by the quality of their weave materials and processes. They use both proprietary and vinyl wicker in the construction of their timeless furniture.
Lloyd Loom - Natural Fiber All-Weather Wicker
Lloyd Loom® furniture is still made in the same facility where this special process was first developed in 1917. Marshall Burns Lloyd created a process by which cellulose strands are woven into a wicker fabric as an alternative to the then popular method of wrapping cane around a frame.
Each hand-crafted piece of Lloyd Loom furniture made today uses the same process to create the loom fabric, though we've added advanced technologies over the last quarter century to produce a continuous strand that will not burr, crack, or peel, resulting in a consistently smooth weave.
Lloyd Loom Process
WEAVING
The fiber used to create Lloyd Loom fabric is twisted into a sturdy cord and wound onto small spools, then rewound onto larger spools that feed into the looms. Our looms draw cord simultaneously from more than 500 spools to weave the Lloyd Loom fabric. A unique feature of Lloyd Loom is the use of aluminum stakes encased in loom fiber. These stakes are inserted into the fabric for enhanced stability and durability.
WRAPPING
Once the loom fabric is woven, it's sealed to withstand the elements, dried and wrapped onto massive spools. These spools are taken to the cutting room, where the wicker fabric is cut to shape for each piece of furniture. Skilled craftsmen fit these pieces of fabric to aluminum frames that are shaped and welded in our facility, taking great care to stretch the wicker into place and secure it with custom-made stainless steel staples. The edges are trimmed and wicker braid is fitted into place by hand so that each piece is beautifully finished.
FINISHING
Fully assembled pieces are taken to our paint shop, where each receives two coats of environmentally friendly yet exceptionally tough Durium® paint. This advanced finishing material is a high solid, polyester resin based paint that's as flexible as it is durable, so it coats the furniture beautifully while providing a finish that can withstand summer heat and winter snow. Available in over two dozen custom finishes.
Vinyl
Some Lloyd Flanders furniture is made with durable vinyl. The company uses only 100% virgin vinyl, which has no added "fillers." This ensures that Lloyd Flanders vinyl will remain soft and pliable for many years, and will hold its shape. Ultraviolet (UV) inhibitors are added to protect the vinyl from sun damage and minimize fading.
Lloyd Flanders vinyl collections come in a variety of distinct colors, textures and designs to accommodate modern outdoor living spaces.
Cushions
Most Lloyd Flanders upholstery features premium foam inserts, while a few collections have internal coil systems. All ranges have durable weather-resistant cushion covers.
Premium Outdoor Cushion System
Lloyd Flanders foam cushions redefine outdoor seating comfort. Their plush cushions inherently mildew and bacteria-resistant, and incorporate 1.5 density High Resilience California Fire Rated Foam.
At the center of things is a Bio Comfort® Foam Core cushion, which is made from soy-based products. This reduces the dependency on petroleum-based products - helping to create an eco-friendly foam cushion.
The core is wrapped with 100% polyester fiber, which meets the requirements of Tech Bulletin Cal. 117-2013. This combination is then bonded and wrapped by a 100% polypropylene jacket, which completely encompasses the cushion. The three-layer jacket is hydrophobic, so it repels water.
The resulting high-quality outdoor cushion foam insert ensures that Lloyd Flanders' upholstered furniture will provide years of comfort that you can be proud of.
Cushion covers are available in four fabric grades and various materials from a number of outdoor textile manufacturers. These high-performance fabrics are colorfast, resist tearing and water, and tend to be easy to clean and maintain. Fabric grades are based on price and not necessarily differences in quality. The least expensive fabric grade is A, while the most expensive is D.
