Astral Centerpost Umbrella from Shademaker

The Shademaker Astral Centerpost Umbrella provides large-scale shade for restaurant terraces, hotel courtyards and spacious residential dining areas. Its broad canopy creates a defined gathering space around an aluminum centerpost. A galvanized internal mast stem reinforces the structure, while aluminum hub and fittings support the canopy assembly.

Choose a 13' square, a 16'6 octagon or a 16'6 square. Coverage ranges from 172–266 square feet. The largest square suits expansive furniture arrangements, while the octagon complements layouts organized around a central table. Account for the centerpost when selecting furniture and planning circulation through the shaded area.

Astral is the larger-scale choice when broad coverage is the priority. Its smallest canopy provides more shade than the largest Atlas. Both models feature telescoping masts and crank operation, but Atlas offers smaller configurations for more compact seating zones.

The telescoping mast raises the canopy assembly as it closes, helping the ribs clear dining tables and surrounding chairs rather than folding down through the furniture arrangement. For restaurants and hotels, this can simplify daily closing routines by reducing the need to move furniture. Clearance varies by configuration, so check the closed rib-end height against the specified tables and seating. Also allow room overhead, as the mast extends above its open height during closing.

A removable crank handle opens and closes the canopy. Commercial-grade fasteners secure the fabric to the frame, and a protective cover is included for use when the umbrella is closed.

Coordinate the canopy with upholstery, exterior finishes and project palettes. Awning-grade options include solution-dyed acrylic from Sunbrella® and Treasure Garden Performance. Furniture-grade solution-dyed acrylic is available from Sunbrella®, Outdura® and Tempotest® in a broad selection of colors and patterns.

Plan the support system early, particularly for dining layouts where the centerpost and base sit among the furniture. Permanent mounting is recommended for all three Astral configurations, with particular emphasis on the two 16'6 sizes. Concrete and in-ground mount kits provide fixed support without a weighted base. Freestanding alternatives include appropriately weighted Infinity bases or stacked steel Z-Plate bases.

Astral's published wind guidance applies to mount-kit installations with the canopy open and horizontal, not freestanding bases. Use freestanding installations only in light winds. Close and secure the canopy when winds increase or whenever the umbrella is unattended. Follow the user manual's storage instructions for severe weather. Wind guidance is not a guarantee, and wind damage is not covered under warranty.
