Taurus Sidepost Umbrella from Shademaker

The Shademaker Taurus Sidepost Umbrella offers gas-assisted shade control for restaurant patios, resort pool decks and residential outdoor spaces. Its aluminum mast sits beside the canopy, leaving the shaded area open for dining tables and lounge furniture. A galvanized internal mast stem reinforces the frame.

Both canopy shapes are nominally 10', but the square provides 100 square feet of coverage compared with 75 for the octagon. Choose the square for broader coverage over linear furniture arrangements or the octagon for individual dining tables and smaller lounge groups. Finish availability varies by shape, as shown below.

Taurus suits dining terraces and poolside seating where umbrellas are opened and closed as part of the daily routine. Its gas piston-assisted mechanism helps raise and lower the canopy without a crank. The umbrella rotates 360° with eight locking positions but does not tilt. Choose Taurus where rotation provides enough shade adjustment, or consider Solaris when front-to-back tilt is important to the layout.

Coordinate the canopy with upholstery, exterior finishes and project palettes. Awning-grade options include solution-dyed acrylic from Sunbrella® and Treasure Garden Performance. Furniture-grade solution-dyed acrylic is available from Sunbrella®, Outdura® and Tempotest® in a broad selection of colors and patterns. A protective cover is included for use when the canopy is folded and secured to the mast.

Plan the support system before finalizing furniture placement and circulation routes. Both Taurus configurations require at least 300 pounds of freestanding base weight. A stacked steel Z-Plate Base is the recommended freestanding option, with Infinity and Titan bases as alternatives. Concrete and in-ground mount kits provide fixed support without a weighted base occupying the floor area.

Taurus has a Wind Rating of 8, corresponding to 38–46 mph, when properly installed with a Shademaker mount kit and the canopy open and horizontal. This rating is a guideline, not a guarantee, and does not apply to freestanding bases. Use freestanding installations only in light winds. Close and secure the umbrella when winds increase or whenever it is unattended. Wind damage is not covered under warranty.
