The Shadowspec Retreat™ Wall Mounted Umbrella provides shade without a ground-level pole or base taking up room beside the furniture. Mounted to a suitable wall, column or post, it leaves the floor available for seating and access on residential balconies, narrow patios and compact café terraces. It's a practical alternative where a freestanding umbrella would put its base in the path of chairs or passing guests.
An anodized aluminum frame and 316-grade stainless steel components support a canopy that extends, rotates and tilts. Gas assistance reduces the effort needed to raise it, while the arm folds back toward the mounting surface when closed. Retreat suits a seating area that stays in one place; if you regularly rearrange furniture across a larger patio, a movable umbrella may offer more flexibility.
Retreat Canopy Size & Shade Adjustment
The nominal 9' hexagonal canopy measures approximately 8'10" between opposite points and 7'7" between opposite sides. Check that outline against occupied seating rather than treating it as a 9' square. The difference matters when chairs sit near the canopy's edges.
| Characteristic | Specification | Practical Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Canopy | Nominal 9' hexagon | Individual shade for a dining table or seating group without a support beneath the canopy. |
| Extension | Approx. 18" of adjustment | Bring shade farther from the wall to reach furniture set away from the mounting surface. |
| Tilt | Level or 16° forward | Angle the canopy toward lower sun instead of moving the seating. |
| Rotation | Range depends on the installation | Redirect coverage within the movement available around the wall or post. |
Dimensions are approximate. Confirm coverage and the complete opening, adjustment and closing clearances for your proposed location.
For a balcony used late in the day, plan around where the sun reaches the seats—not just where the canopy fits overhead. A table positioned directly beneath the umbrella at noon may need angled shade by dinner. Check that the available tilt and arm movement can address that exposure before choosing the mounting point.
Retreat Canopy Fabric & Colors
The Texsilk® solution-dyed olefin canopy resists fading, water, stains and mildew. Choose a neutral to coordinate with existing furniture, Rust for a warmer accent or Black & White Stripe for a more graphic look. For several umbrellas along a terrace, confirm color availability across the full order.

Retreat Mounting & Installation Planning
The wall mounting bracket is included, but fastenings are not. The wall, column or post must be capable of supporting the umbrella loads. Decorative cladding or a balcony railing should not be assumed suitable; select fixings for the supporting structure and follow the installation instructions.
Allow room for the arm to extend and swing, the canopy to tilt and the umbrella to fold against the mounting surface. Eaves, doors and windows can restrict operation even when the open canopy fits. Keep the controls within reach without requiring someone to lean across a table or over a balcony edge.
Wall and post installations provide different rotation ranges, so plan around the movement available at your actual mounting point. For apartments, condominiums or leased commercial premises, confirm permission to attach the bracket before ordering.
Closing & Care
A protective cover is included for use when Retreat is closed. Return the extension, rotation and tilt to their default positions before folding the umbrella, following the owner's manual. Allow wet fabric to dry before extended storage.
Close and cover the umbrella in adverse weather or whenever it's unattended. Shadowspec recommends closing the canopy when winds exceed 25 mph; close it sooner if conditions become unsuitable for use. This is closure guidance, not a wind rating. Wind damage is not covered under warranty.
