Elegant sun shade structures

Some outdoor settings and occasions require more protection than a standard patio umbrella can provide. Large outdoor gatherings typically take up additional space with seating and tables to accommodate them. That's where poolside cabanas, canopies and tent-style shade structures come into play. Decor Outdoor carries versatile residential and commerical models that range in size from a private 8' x 8' or 10' x 10' canopy to massive 8' x 24' structures to shelter long dining sets or sectional lounge pits. They provide sun protection from above any many models have optional walls and curtains to shield you from harmful UV rays and glare from the side.

Sturdy long-lasting frame materials and designs

Sunshade structures are typically much larger and have greater demands for strength and stability than even big patio umbrellas. While a spacious outdoor cabana can be disassembled and stored when not in use, they're usually left up to face the elements year-round - similar to a permanent pool house. Consequently, frame materials and finishes must be extra strong and weather-resistant. FSC-certified hardwoods like teak or bamboo are sometimes used for poles and framing but they need oiling or treating to maintain their appearance and handle temperature swings less effectively than metals. Most substantial outdoor canopy structures are made of durable materials like aluminum or steel and feature anodized or powder-coated finishes that inhibit rust and provide corrosion protection. Additionally, pool cabana frames and pavilion poles tend to be thicker than those of outdoor umbrellas to support the larger canopies.

Durable UV and weather-resistant canopy fabrics

Some permanent shades can be configured with pergola-like roofing but most have ultraviolet and water-resistant fabric canopies. Decor Outdoor's luxury brands use only the highest quality fabrics from renowned manufacturers like Sunbrella® and Outdura®. These high-performance solution-dyed acrylic textiles have tight weaves with high tensile strength that resist tearing, ripping and fraying and are slow to fade. These premium outdoor fabrics are weather-resistant, stain-resistance, easy to clean and feature UPF 50+ sun protection, which qualifies them for the Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation. Both furniture-grade and awning-grade fabric weights are employed on our shade canopies. Marine-grade fabrics may be offered and are ideal for salt air environments.

Cabana Shades - Classic beach tents to customizable outdoor canopies

Traditional four-poster patio cabanas usually have a vaulted roof with curtain walls that tie back for an open-air space or close for privacy. Decor Outdoor carries modern versions for installations in hospitality, commercial or luxury residential settings. Most of the frames are constructed of aluminum or marine grade stainless steel with optional walls or curtains. These contemporary pool houses may offer flat retractable roofs or pergola style panels that can also be used on the walls or as sliding doors for easy access on any side.

Outdoor Pavilions - spacious open-air canopy tents

Unlike cabana-style structures, outdoor pavilions prioritize air flow and accessibility over privacy. Their sides are open and allow easy access to seating or serving tables. Consequently, they're versatile and perfect for casual and professional use alike. Our pavilions can be permanently mounted or stabilized by heavy base plates. They're great for backyard gatherings or events held in wide open outdoor spaces where you may need shade or protection from light rainfall.

Frequently Asked Questions - Outdoor shade structures

What's the difference between a cabana, gazebo and pergola?

Cabanas and gazebos both have closed roofs. However, gazebos and pergolas have all four sides open, while cabanas have only one. The other three sides of a pool cabana may be covered by movable curtains or more permanent walls. Pergolas are different from gazebos in that their roofs are slatted to allow some sunlight through.

Are cabanas and shade structures easy to assemble and disassemble?

Obviously, every model is different and is going to have different assembly instructions. However, these are structures generally meant to be used in different spaces and during different weather conditions. They truly are the perfect outdoor shade companion.

Unlike our permanent canopy structures, our outdoor cabanas are relatively portable and can be placed nearly anywhere. This includes on your deck, in your yard or on the beach with relative ease. But, when in doubt, look at each product’s documentation for assembly specifics and relocation tips.

Are pavilions permanent outdoor structures?

Shade pavilions with wooden or metal roofs and thick support posts may be permanently mounted in concrete or to decking. These typically cover large or multiple picnic tables and seating. These permanent canopy structures do not need to be taken in at the end of the season (when properly installed).

Smaller versions with slender telescoping posts and fabric canopies are more mobile with freestanding bases. They tend to protect a single dining set or seating area.

When considering a permanent outdoor shade structure, it’s best to consider your long-term plans. Do you plan to use it just at home, or will you also want cabana shade on the beach? Due to the need for professional installation, permanent canopy structures are only ideal in certain circumstances.
